As the art educator at my elementary school I am in constant communication with the other K-5 teachers to create art lessons that reinforce what students are currently learning in their classrooms. To support this philosophy I have authored several grants from the Washington Townhip Foundation for visiting artists and art-related projects. As one example, we will have bookmaker Bonnie Stachlecker come as part of a bookmaking project scheduled for January 2007. The entire school will study the art and science of making books, which ties into the students' language arts and writing unit.
A ceramic tile wall mural was created and produced by all Greenbriar Elementary students as part of the school's rennovation in the mid-1990's. The mural consists of all student artwork; every student K-5 participated in planning the mural, as well as the painting and glazing of the tiles.
